Designer Curtis Wehfritz on his approach to Peace River Country:
“One of the last places with a living connection to homesteading is Peace River Country. To clear the land and build your own nest is a dream that is central to the idea of Canada. The sense that with your own hands you can forge the elements that make up family and community.
It is the land itself which turns on them first. Prescient for our times, where water can be set on fire, they are backed into making a stand, and protecting it.
A small copse of delicate hemlock saplings stripped to their bones are suspended in the space and a dinner table fashioned after a cage.”
These beautiful hemlock trees are pictured below on their journey to Tarragon Theatre, where you can see them on stage in Peace River Country.
