Spring Training Project

Every spring we offer the Tarragon Theatre Spring Training Project - now in its 22nd year! We select a group of talented young people, aged 15-18, through an audition process to participate in this FREE program.
The Spring Training Project begins with an intensive five-day performance training in the Tarragon studios, during the secondary school March Break period, March 12-16, 2012. Participants will be exposed to a range of practice areas such as voice, movement, text analysis, scene study, theatrical devising and conceptual interpretation. The five-day intensive is designed to provide the STP ensemble with foundation performance training and prepare them to interpret and present new works developed by their peers in the Young Playwright's Unit (YPU) in a festival setting. In the middle of May rehearsals will be held after school to prepare for the Festival on May 26-27, 2012.
Students interested in the program must send in an application form, a 25-word description of what they hope to achieve and one letter of recommendation, c/o Spring Training Project, to the Education and Outreach department at Tarragon Theatre no later than Friday, December 9, 2011. Students will be invited to Tarragon for an interview and audition where they will be asked to perform a short published monologue of their choice and discuss their interest in theatre.
The program is FREE and admits 12-15 participants each year.
What surprised me most about STP was the comfortable atmosphere where students, who had no previous experience in acting or performing could feel free to express themselves and have fun.
