Tarragon Playwrights Unit
|
What is the Playwrights Unit? Established by Urjo Kareda in 1982, the Playwrights Unit is another step in Tarragon's play development path. Each year, six or seven playwrights are invited to participate in the group. The playwright works on one play for the duration of the Unit and throughout the year, the play is read by actors, new drafts are discussed with other writers in the group and in January, their plays are read in a a weeklong series of free public readings. The unit works with young or emerging writers, prose or poetry writers turning to drama, directors or actors turned writers and those who have often had works produced in festivals, fringes or other independent productions. We may also work with more experienced writers who are new to Tarragon or who may be working on a particularly new idea or style. The unit lasts one year, beginning in January and ending with the Play Reading Week the following January. Can I apply for the Playwrights Unit? No. There is no application process to the Unit. Acceptance into the Unit is by invitation only. Past Units click here This years unit: Kate Cayley, Paul Dunn, Catherine Hayos, Daniel Karasik, Tessa King, Melinda Little, Thelon Oeming.
