Playwrights-in-Residence
Tarragon Theatre has had playwrights-in-residence for most of its history.
Playwrights Unit
The Playwrights Unit is an innovative group designed to bring six playwrights together to develop new work for the stage over the course of a year.
Play Reading Week
Our annual Play Reading Week takes place every year in December. Here, each play from the Playwrights Unit receives a public reading by professional actors.
WorkSpace
The WorkSpace Program allows Tarragon to further explore play development by producing artists’ work in the primary stages.
Theatre Creators’ Reserve Grant
Tarragon Theatre sees this program as an opportunity to provide time for the creator to take their play to the next stage or two of its development. These grants offer the creator an opportunity to conduct research, or to work on a first draft or subsequent drafts of a play. If the project is a collective creation, the grant buys time to improvise/create in the rehearsal hall. We are no longer accepting applications to the Theatre Creators' Reserve for 2009/2010. All of our funds for this season have been allocated. Please check back in September 2010.
George Brown New Play Development
Each year, the Tarragon works with George Brown to select an appropriate playwright to work with George Brown’s second year class. The playwright’s script is workshopped by the class, under the direction of a professional theatre director. In the students’ third year, a second workshop culminates in a staged reading. George Brown Theatre School then has the option of performing the play in a full production later that year.
