Script Submissions
Tarragon is primarily a playwright’s theatre. Its mandate is to develop, encourage and produce new work; to attract or train artists and technicians to interpret new work; and to inform and develop an audience for new work.
As such, we are very interested in reading work by both emerging and established playwrights. However, before you submit your script to us, we ask that you read the following guidelines.
We accept:
- submissions from Canadian writers only
- submissions from September to May only
- one submission per writer per season
- submissions sent by mail only — we will not respond to fax or e-mail submissions
Please send a sample package that includes a cover letter and the first ten pages of your script. In your cover letter, please include:
- your full mailing address, phone number and email address
- a short biography of the playwright
- some background on the script, its development and production history, if applicable
If you would like your script returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your submission. Otherwise, your script will be recycled once we have read it and responded to you.
How we respond:
- We acknowledge (via letter or e-mail) the receipt of your submission
- We send a letter or e-mail once we have read your script.
- We do not provide a critique or dramaturgical feedback.
We respond to each submission that we read. However, due to the high volume of submissions, we ask for your patience in receiving a reply from us. Please allow 3 to 6 months time for a response.
We ask that you do not phone or e-mail to check the status of your script.
Each submission is read by Andrea Romaldi, Literary Manager, who makes recommendations to Richard Rose, Artistic Director. All submissions should be addressed to her at:
