Tarragon is committed to bringing young people to theatre to experience a socially-focused art form that engages the head and heart.

2016/17 Season Programs for Youth at Tarragon:

Student Matinees – Tarragon offers student matinees at the low price of $12/student, and a complimentary chaperone ticket for every 20 student tickets booked. We can also accommodate tours and talkbacks, and provide educational materials to contextualize the plays. The Student Ticket program is supported by Scotiabank. Please note that Bus Subsidies are available for student matinees. Please contact anne@tarragontheatre.com for a bus subsidy application.

Workshops – Professional theatre artists and Tarragon’s Education team will lead your students in a morning workshop, exploring themes specific to the show you will see that afternoon. Topics could also include playwriting, directing, text analysis, performance, improv, voice, movement, theatre design, character creation, audition technique, scene study, or we can develop a workshop according to your needs.

The Young Playwrights Unit (YPU) – is a FREE training experience for young people who are curious and passionate about play-making. We take a page from our professional play development programs to offer a group of dedicated young creators a rigorous context in which to develop some of their first works.

The Scarborough Project – Students from three Scarborough schools will devise their own work in response to Geoffrey Simon Brown’s play The Circle (running at Tarragon from October 18th – November 27th, 2016). This youth-created collaborative piece will be performed in May 2017 at a special location in Scarborough.

Tarragon Student Club – We invite students to experience an evening of performance and to meet young theatre aficionados from other schools. These evenings begin at 6:30pm with a light dinner served at 7pm. Students will be joined by an artist from the show who will come and talk about a specific aspect of the production – the development of the play, the design, the rehearsal process, the props, the marketing or the fundraising. The Student Club Subscription costs $60.00 and includes 1 ticket to 6 of our productions.

The Young Directors Unit – works in collaboration with the Sears Ontario Drama Festival when students bring their plays-in-progress to Tarragon for feedback and input.

School Ambassadors – An opportunity for student representatives to join in an earlier part of the play production process before their classes come to the theatre for a student matinee.
