Maria Milisavljevic’s award-winning play Abyss, which performed in the Extraspace in February of 2015, has gone on to a critically-acclaimed run in London, England at the Arcola Theatre directed by Jacqui Honess-Martin. The play originally opened as Brandung at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 2013, and is still running in that venue’s repertory. Following the world premiere, Milisavljevic – Tarragon’s first international Playwright-in-Residence – brought it to Tarragon and worked extensively with the artistic staff here to develop the English-language version that was seen on our stage this season.
The London production has opened to rave reviews, and continues to April 25th:
★★★★ “Sublime, poetical story telling.” – Exeuent Magazine
“[Honess-Martin’s] directing is elegant, both delicate and direct, with a good pace and attractive cast; enthralling playwriting.” – The Arts Desk
“Milisavljevic’s writing is poetic; beautiful turns of phrases” – Time Out London
“Poetic and emotionally strong; beautifully moving, darkly twisting through emotion with pace and poetry.” – Everything-Theatre
