Playwriting with Paula Wing

This course is an opportunity to connect with others and create a full first draft of a new play. Sessions will provide an opportunity to create and revise material through timed writing, small assignments, discussion and critique. From dialogue that pops to building on a writing burst to fully developing characters and more, join us each week to write, chat, think, and learn from the fantastic Paula Wing and each other!

Note: Participants will be expected to meet regular writing deadlines, and to read their work aloud in class. As this is a virtual class a reliable internet connection is ideal. If you do not have a reliable internet connection, and are interested in taking the class, please note it on your application. We are committed to finding an alternate way to facilitate your learning and participation in the class.

Instructor

Paula Wing is an actor, playwright and translator whose work has been produced across Canada and the U.S. This is an exciting year for Paula as her original play Risky Phil made its world premiere at Young Peoples Theatre. She’s also thrilled that this September the American premiere of her translation of Stefano Massini’s Intractable Woman will be produced by The Play Company in New York City. Her “Canadianization” of Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist for Soulpepper Theatre won a Best Production Dora in 2015.

Paula has taught playwriting nationally and internationally. She has a long and cherished association with the Tarragon, running a playwriting class and working with their Young Playwrights Unit. She is a sessional professor of Acing as well as Drama and Education at the University of Windsor, and a Resident Artist at Soulpepper, where she writes program notes for the company and is active in their community programming initiatives.
