The Bulmash-Siegel New Creation Development Award

The Award

The Bulmash Siegel New Creation Development Award has been established to support an artist in the creation of a new contemporary Canadian work in collaboration with Tarragon Theatre for a period of up to 15 weeks.

This $7000 grant is made possible by the support of the Bulmash Siegel Foundation.

The Residency

The successful applicant will spend up to 15 weeks* at Tarragon Theatre working in collaboration with Tarragon artists and staff between February 2022 – July 2022.

*The 15 weeks do not need to be consecutive


  • Must be a Canadian citizen or have permanent residency
  • Must be a theatre creator with 5 -15 years of experience in the industry
  • Artist’s work or past work has had at least one professional production, staged reading or workshop reading at some point in their career

It is recommended that the applicant be a resident of the Greater Toronto Area for the duration of the proposed development period.

For the initial application, artists are invited to submit the following separate documents in PDF form (If possible) in a single e-mail with the subject: Bulmash Siegel Award Application.

A one page cover letter or 2 minute video (max) articulating your interest in the residency.

Some questions to consider within the letter/video are:

    • How can the award benefit your current artistic project?
    • How can a partnership serve both yourself and the Tarragon Theatre community?
    • Does the project have a greater community impact?
    • What inspires you to work/develop a piece with Tarragon Theatre?
    • What is your ideal trajectory of this project after the time of residency?

A 1 page description/1 min video (max) of your own artistic practice that reflects on the following:

    • What guides your artistic practice? What works and what would you like to investigate further?
    • What is a development experience that you were inspired by? Is there an artist or process that you are moved by and how do they inform your work?
    • If you were able, how would you like to see your practice evolve; especially within this

A 1 page synopsis of work you are looking to develop.

Samples of previous work:
Writing samples (10 pages max)
Performance/Creation samples can be archival footage and/or demo reel (3mins max),
productions images (8 images max)
